Gulf Coast is committed to encouraging skilled trades and wants to promote, defend and improve the skilled trade industry. With that in mind, ACCA (Air Conditioning Contractors of America) has put forth a statement to the Ways & Means Committee encouraging the Administration to pass the PROSPER Act.
Gulf Coast supports increased funding and the reauthorization of the Perkins Career and Technical Education, as well as Congresswoman Foxx’s bill, H.R. 4508, the Promoting Real Opportunity, Success and Prosperity through Education Reform (PROSPER) Act. These pieces of legislation include crucial provisions that will enable students to obtain quality jobs, enable employers to fill more vacancies, and train existing workers with needed skills.
The PROSPER Act will help students find jobs in growth industries, including HVACR and energy efficiency, and close the national skills gap that has become severe. The PROSPER Act’s incentives for work study initiatives, allowing students the opportunity for work-based learning, is very encouraging. We were also pleased to see the focus on high-wage, high-demand jobs, like those abundantly available in our industry.
